LUMBY · The construction materials marketplace
Frequently asked questions
What is Lumby?
Lumby is a marketplace that connects contractors with local building-material suppliers. Send RFQs, receive line-item quotes, award the job, pay through the platform, and complete the project, all in one place.
What does Lumby cost for contractors?
Contractors pick a paid plan at sign-up and try it free for 30 days: Pro (unlimited active projects, 5 suppliers per RFQ), Estimating (unlimited AI material takeoffs), Bundle (Pro plus Estimating) or Team (4 seats, everything in Bundle). The Free plan isn't offered at sign-up, but contractors can move to it later from Plans & Pricing. Paid plans are billed monthly or annually. Marketplace fees may apply per transaction.
What does Lumby cost for suppliers?
The supplier plan is billed monthly or annually and starts with a 60-day free trial at sign-up. Marketplace fees may apply per transaction. The plan unlocks inbound RFQs from local contractors, the supplier dashboard, quote management, and billing and revenue analytics.
How do I create an account?
Choose Contractor or Supplier, fill in your business details and verify your email. Contractors then choose a plan and add a card or bank account to start a 30-day free trial. Suppliers complete 5 onboarding steps (business details and hours, materials, delivery and payment terms, review, and payout setup with Stripe, which is required), then add a card or bank account to start a 2-month free trial. Once Stripe has verified the business and the card or bank account is on file, the Lumby team reviews and approves the supplier, usually within 1 business day. A supplier who is not approved has the trial cancelled and pays nothing.
How do I send an RFQ?
Go to Build Project, enter your project details and materials list (or upload plans for an AI takeoff), pick the suppliers you want to invite, and send. Suppliers receive your request on their dashboard right away.
Can a contractor message a supplier without sending an RFQ first?
No. Messaging opens between a contractor and a supplier only after the contractor sends that supplier an RFQ with a material list. It keeps suppliers' inboxes useful. No cold outreach.
Can I send RFQs after business hours?
Yes. Send RFQs any time and suppliers respond on their schedule. No phone calls needed.
What happens after I award a quote?
The supplier is notified immediately, payment is processed and the delivery is scheduled. You can message the supplier from the project page and track the delivery.
How does payment work?
Orders are paid securely through Stripe by card or bank account, either right away or on the terms the supplier offers, like COD or Net terms. Each supplier sets its own terms. Suppliers receive payouts directly to their connected bank account. Lumby subscriptions are paid by card or US bank account and are charged when the free trial ends; subscriptions have no Net terms.
What happens when my free trial ends?
The plan you picked is charged to the payment method on file. Reminder emails go out 7 days and 1 day before. You can cancel any time before then from Plans & Pricing, and pay nothing. Each account gets one free trial.
Can suppliers set a service radius?
Yes. Suppliers set their service radius in miles during onboarding and only receive RFQs from contractors inside their coverage area.
Is my data secure?
Yes. Lumby uses encryption, row-level security on every database table, and secure authentication. Your quotes, prices and business data are never shared without your permission.
